Aritro Mukherjee is a final year student, studying Bsc Quantitative Finance in HKUST. He aspires for a career in Banking and Finance after his graduation. An ardent supporter of Manchester United, his passion in football lead him to compete in state level football tournaments. He also loves watching movies and playing guitar.

Aswathy Vijayakumar is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast, UK.

 

Aswathy is from Kerala, India. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Asian University for Women, Bangladesh in 2013 followed by her PhD at Ewha Woman’s University, South Korea. She working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Centre for Public Health, QUB. She did her entire application from UG, PG to Post Doc by herself. Here’s her story!

Metamorphosis of mind-set - Evolution of Careers - 2

Metamorphosis of many conventional careers is on the rise. Traditional materials or industrial engineers will be required to save the environment - designing  solutions for waste management problems. Recruiters would look out for Drone photographers or drone traffic optimisers. Traditional fields of Architects or Civil engineers will require metamorphoses into structural engineers who will make makeshift homes using 3-D printing to provide temporary buildings for people in crisis situations of natural disaster, war or medical outbreak. Once the crisis is over the structures could be recycled and reused multiple times.

The world is changing fast.  My mobile phone functions weirdly in every 3-4 years and I need to change it, I prefer a minimally invasive computer aided surgery to spend least recovery period at the hospital,  I am a fervent admirer of apps that fetch me food at wee hours, a cab to drop at any time anywhere, I can go on..and in this desperate pandemic induced milieu I am sure life-at-home would have been a distressed failure if there was no technology!. Yet future careers demand something more...something truly dynamic!

Decision Dilemma - Why Psychometrics?

Psychometric tests are a standard and scientific method used to measure individuals' intellectual abilities and behavioural style. Many times the behavioural traits and personality of an individual can be difficult to assess during a job interview. Psychometric assessment tools can be helpful at analysing the ‘hidden’ traits of an individual and provide a better, more realistic view of one’s abilities than a formal certificate of education.
